Peer to Peer Exchange Learning with ICAN

A significant highlight of this year was a peer-to-peer exchange facilitated by the International Civil Society Action Network (ICAN), wherein our organization learned from the experiences of Odessa, Iraq, another CSO actively engaged in counter-violent extremism (CVE) efforts.

During this week-long exchange, our organization showcased its best practices, specifically highlighting the contributions of our ‘Tim Tangguh’ in CVE prevention and mitigation. Our peers expressed significant interest and admiration for the outcomes achieved by our team.

Furthermore, the exchange included visits to key Indonesian government institutions, namely the Ministry of Religion, the National Counter Terrorism Agency (BNPT), and Counterterrorism Special Detachment 88 (Densus 88). These visits provided valuable insights into the counterterrorism strategies and operations implemented at the national level.

The final two days were dedicated to reflection and evaluation. At Rumah Empatiku, participants engaged in a critical analysis of the exchange, identifying key learnings and areas for improvement in our own CVE work.
